What a Germany proxy is and when you need one

A Germany proxy makes your scraper appear to be a person browsing from inside Germany. German sites use your IP address to decide which prices, delivery options, language and search results to show. A request from a US or Dutch IP often gets a different page, a cookie wall, or a block.

You need a German IP proxy when the data you want only exists for German visitors:

  • Localised prices. Amazon.de, Otto and MediaMarkt show prices, VAT-inclusive totals and delivery dates for German addresses.
  • Local search results. Google.de ranks results differently for a searcher in Germany than for one in London.
  • Geo-restricted catalogues. Many German retailers limit ranges, promotions and marketplace sellers to domestic traffic.
  • Accurate ad and content checks. Ads served in Deutschland are only visible to German IPs. Germany is the largest e-commerce market in Europe, which is why most international retailers treat it as their primary European data source.

If you buy proxies for use in Germany, your data-protection team will screen the vendor before they look at pool size. Here is what you can check.

Every request routes through a real consumer connection in Germany, sourced with consent. The German IP pool is run under the same audited security controls as the rest of MrScraper's infrastructure, described below.

What ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type II cover

  • ISO 27001:2022 certifies MrScraper's information security management system: access control, encryption, incident response and supplier management, audited by an independent body.
  • SOC 2 Type II is the AICPA framework for how service organisations manage customer data. A Type II report tests that controls operate effectively over a period of time, not just on one date. MrScraper is assessed against its five Trust Services Criteria: security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality and privacy. Both are listed in the MrScraper Trust Center, where you can request access to the ISO 27001 documentation.

What we retain and what we don't

Connection metadata for abuse prevention Yes, [X days, VERIFY]

Your responsibilities under GDPR

The proxy network is designed to support lawful, GDPR-aligned data collection, but the data you choose to collect is your decision. Scraping public prices and listings is common practice; collecting personal data of EU residents requires a lawful basis under GDPR. Our Acceptable Use Policy [VERIFY URL] prohibits using the network to collect sensitive personal data. A data processing agreement (DPA) is available on request. [VERIFY]

City and Bundesland data: use postcodes, not IPs

The Germany proxy targets at country level. Every request exits through a German residential IP, but you can't pin it to a specific city or Bundesland. For most German scraping, that is all you need, because German retailers price nationally and show the same catalogue to every German IP.

When you do need regional data, the IP is rarely what decides it. German sites use the postcode (PLZ) you enter to show delivery dates, local stock and store availability. Amazon.de, MediaMarkt, Saturn and grocery delivery services all work this way. Set the PLZ in the site's delivery-location field or cookie, and a German IP from anywhere in the country returns that region's result.

City Bundesland Example PLZ
Berlin (Mitte) Berlin 10115
Munich (Altstadt) Bavaria 80331
Hamburg (Altstadt) Hamburg 20095
Frankfurt (Innenstadt) Hesse 60311
Cologne (Altstadt-Nord) North Rhine-Westphalia 50667
Düsseldorf (Altstadt) North Rhine-Westphalia 40213
Stuttgart (Mitte) Baden-Württemberg 70173

For city-level Google.de results, pass the location in the search request (Google's uule parameter) rather than relying on the IP.

Why residential proxies for Germany, not ISP or datacenter

MrScraper offers residential proxies only. That is deliberate for a market like Germany.

Type How German sites treat it Offered by MrScraper
Residential Looks like a household on Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone or O2. Hardest to block. Yes
ISP Static IPs registered to an ISP but hosted in a data centre. Often flagged by stronger bot protection. No
Datacenter IP ranges owned by hosting companies. Blocked quickly by Amazon.de, Idealo and most large German retailers. No

A German residential proxy is the right default for retail and search targets, because German retailers block datacenter ranges aggressively. For long sessions that ISP proxies are usually bought for, use a sticky session that holds the same German IP for up to 60 minutes. If you would rather not manage proxies, blocks and CAPTCHAs yourself, Web Unblocker handles retries, fingerprints and rendering for you.

What people use Germany proxies for

Idealo and Geizhals price-comparison data

Price comparison is central to how Germans shop. Idealo and Geizhals aggregate offers from hundreds of retailers, so one scrape shows you the whole market for a product: every seller, price, shipping cost and stock status. Both sites rate-limit foreign and datacenter traffic, so a German residential IP is the reliable way to collect this data at scale.

Amazon.de and Otto price monitoring

Amazon.de and Otto are the two largest general retailers in Germany. Monitor Buy Box prices, marketplace sellers, delivery estimates and promotions as a German shopper sees them. Extend the same setup to MediaMarkt and Saturn for electronics, and to Zalando and AboutYou for fashion.

Google.de SERP tracking

Google.de results differ from Google.com. Track rankings, featured snippets and Shopping results from a German IP. For local packs in Berlin, Munich or Hamburg, add a location parameter to the search request.

Property and vehicle listings

Immobilienscout24 is Germany's largest property portal, and Mobile.de is its largest vehicle marketplace. Both are used for rent and price indices, inventory tracking and valuation models. Both enforce bot protection that residential IPs handle well.

Ad verification in Germany

Check that ads served in Germany appear on the right sites, in the right placements, in German, and without fraud or brand-safety issues. Ad networks serve different creative by country, so verification needs a genuine German residential IP.

Germany vs Austria and Switzerland

A German IP is not an Austrian or Swiss one. Sites like Amazon.de may serve Austrian visitors, but .at and .ch sites (and Swiss pricing in CHF) show local prices, stock and search results only to Austrian or Swiss IPs. For DACH-wide monitoring, run each market with its own country code: de, at and ch.

How to set up a Germany proxy

Every request goes to one Germany proxy server endpoint, proxy.mrscraper.com, with the country set in your username. Use port 10000 for HTTP (http://) or port 10001 for SOCKS5 (socks5://). No SDK is required; any HTTP or SOCKS5 client works. The MrScraper dashboard also generates ready-made integration code for Puppeteer, Playwright, CloakBrowser and Selenium.

The examples below search for German product terms with umlauts and ß (Kühlschrank, Größe, Fußball). German pages are UTF-8, and a lot of scrapers still mangle these characters. Each snippet encodes the query properly and decodes the response as UTF-8.

curl

bash
# Check that your IP resolves to Germany
curl -x 'http://USERNAME-country-de:PASSWORD@proxy.mrscraper.com:10000' \

# Search Idealo for "Kühlschrank" (URL-encode umlauts: ü = %C3%BC)
curl -x 'http://USERNAME-country-de:PASSWORD@proxy.mrscraper.com:10000' \
  -H 'Accept-Language: de-DE,de;q=0.9' \

Python

python
import requests
from urllib.parse import quote

proxies = {"http": proxy, "https": proxy}
headers = {"Accept-Language": "de-DE,de;q=0.9"}

query = "Fußball Größe 5"  # ß and ö must be percent-encoded as UTF-8
url = f"https://www.google.de/search?q={quote(query)}&hl=de&gl=de"

resp = requests.get(url, proxies=proxies, headers=headers, timeout=30)
resp.encoding = "utf-8"  # don't let requests guess ISO-8859-1

html = resp.text
print("Größe" in html) # True when umlauts survived decoding

# Save with explicit UTF-8 so ä, ö, ü, ß stay intact on disk

Node.js

javascript
// npm install undici
import { ProxyAgent, fetch } from "undici";

const agent = new ProxyAgent(
  "http://USERNAME-country-de:PASSWORD@proxy.mrscraper.com:10000"
);

const query = encodeURIComponent("Kühlschrank Größe"); // UTF-8 percent-encoding
const url = `https://www.otto.de/suche/${query}/`;

const res = await fetch(url, {
  dispatcher: agent,
  headers: { "Accept-Language": "de-DE,de;q=0.9" },
});

// Decode bytes explicitly as UTF-8 so umlauts are not mangled
const buf = await res.arrayBuffer();
const html = new TextDecoder("utf-8").decode(buf);
console.log(html.includes("Kühlschrank"));

Rotating vs sticky German sessions

Rotating Sticky
IP behaviour New German IP on every request Same German IP for up to 60 minutes
Best for Price monitoring, SERP tracking, large catalogue crawls Checkout flows, logged-in sessions, paginated results
How to use Default: USERNAME-country-de Add a session ID and duration: USERNAME-country-de-sessid-basket1-sesstime-30

Use rotating sessions for most scraping, since spreading requests across many IPs keeps block rates low. Switch to sticky when a site ties state such as a basket, a login or a pagination cursor to one IP. -sessid- names the session, so requests with the same ID share one IP. -sesstime- sets how long the IP is held, up to 60 minutes; without it, a session lasts 10 minutes. When the session expires, the next request gets a new German IP. More detail: Sticky vs rotating residential proxies.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Germany proxy?

A Germany proxy routes your internet request through an IP address located in Germany. German websites such as Amazon.de and Google.de then treat the request as domestic traffic. The Germany proxy shows you the same prices, stock levels and search results a local visitor sees. MrScraper's Germany proxy pool contains 3,537,899 residential IPs, priced at $1.50 per GB.

Are German residential proxies GDPR compliant?

MrScraper's German residential proxies are sourced from participants who give explicit, withdrawable consent. MrScraper holds ISO 27001 certification and is SOC 2 Type II compliant. GDPR compliance also depends on what you collect. Scraping public prices is common practice, while collecting personal data of EU residents requires a lawful basis under GDPR Article 6.

How many German residential IPs are available?

MrScraper's Germany proxy pool contains 3,537,899 residential IPs. Every request draws from the full German pool, because targeting is set at country level. Rotating sessions assign a new German IP on every request. Sticky sessions hold one German IP for up to 60 minutes. The free trial includes 1 GB to test coverage.

Can I target a specific German city like Berlin or Munich?

No, the Germany proxy targets at country level, not by city. Most German retailers price nationally, so a German IP from any region returns the same prices. For city-specific delivery dates or stock, set a postcode (PLZ) on the site instead. Examples are 10115 for Berlin Mitte and 80331 for Munich Altstadt.

Can I scrape Amazon.de with a German residential proxy?

Yes, a German residential IP is the most reliable way to scrape public data on Amazon.de. Amazon.de shows prices, delivery dates and Buy Box sellers based on the visitor's country and delivery postcode. Datacenter IPs are blocked far more often. Use rotating sessions for product pages and sticky sessions for paginated search results.

Do I need a German IP to see Google.de results?

Yes, you need a German IP to see accurate Google.de results. Google personalises rankings by the searcher's location, not only by the domain. A search on Google.de from a US IP returns different results than one from Germany. For city-level local packs, add a location parameter such as Google's uule to the Germany proxy request.

How much do Germany proxies cost?

MrScraper Germany proxies cost $1.50 per GB of bandwidth. You pay only for the data you use. Rotating and sticky sessions are included at no extra cost. A free trial includes 1 GB to test German residential IPs. For large monthly volumes, MrScraper's sales team can prepare a quote with ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type II documentation.

Will a German proxy work for Austrian or Swiss websites?

A German proxy will load most Austrian and Swiss websites, but it will not show local results. Sites on .at and .ch domains show Austrian or Swiss prices, stock and search rankings only to Austrian or Swiss IPs. Swiss retailers also price in CHF. For DACH-wide data, run separate Germany, Austria and Switzerland proxies.

What is the difference between German residential and datacenter proxies?

A German residential IP is an address assigned by a German internet provider such as Deutsche Telekom or Vodafone to a real household. A German datacenter proxy uses an IP owned by a hosting company. Residential IPs are much harder for sites like Amazon.de and Idealo to block. MrScraper offers residential proxies only for this reason.

How are your German residential IPs sourced?

MrScraper's German residential IPs come from real consumer internet connections in Germany, sourced with consent. Each Germany proxy request exits through one of 3,537,899 household IPs on German networks. The network runs under ISO 27001 certification and SOC 2 Type II controls. Security documentation can be requested through the MrScraper Trust Center.
