Proxy Bandwidth

Proxy bandwidth is the data volume (measured in GB) that residential proxy providers meter and bill on, since routing traffic through real-user IPs costs the provider per byte moved, unlike datacenter proxies which are typically billed per IP or per connection instead. In high-throughput data extraction, every outbound HTTP request and inbound server payload consumes metered data through the proxy node. Engineering teams must actively analyze page weight and response payloads to control overall proxy bandwidth cost and optimize extraction pipelines.

A common misconception is seeking an unlimited bandwidth proxy for residential extraction; genuine residential networks cannot offer unmetered bandwidth because residential peer data is inherently compensated per gigabyte. Understanding residential proxy bandwidth pricing requires auditing page weight: raw HTML responses require only 50–300 KB, whereas full headless browsers rendering unblocked media consume 3–10 MB per page. Calculating how much do residential proxies cost requires balancing payload size with proxy pool size and success rate to prevent costly retries.
